Strawberry Honey Moonrise
This canvas print captures June's full moon - known as a Strawberry Moon - as it rises over the Superior Entry Lighthouse on Lake Superior. This image went viral when Grant posted it to social media and was even featured on the home page of Space.com.
This full moon is also known as a Rose Moon or Honey Moon, for the red to amber color it takes while hanging low on the horizon. 2016's Strawberry Moon was a rare occurrence, landing upon the Summer Solstice, which hasn't happened since 1948.
This photograph is a composite of images taken 2 miles from the Superior Entry Lighthouse, shooting from Duluth, Minnesota's Park Point to Wisconsin Point outside of Superior, WI. The telephoto distance makes the moon loom huge on the horizon above the lighthouse.
